EcoSense™ Stormwater Filtration systems are internationally tested and utilized structural devices which have demonstrated TSS removals of greater than 95% and the effective removal of additional pollutants including suspended and emulsified hydrocarbons (oils, grease, and fuels), phosphorus and nitrogen, volatile organic compounds, PCBs, and various organically bound heavy metals (i.e. lead, copper, zinc, chromium) from stormwater, wash-water and wastewater, while allowing the cleansed water to pass through quickly and safely to be reused or discharged. Media formulations that kill bacteria and remove dissolved heavy metals are also available. Our Stormwater Filtration systems are designed so that materials like leaves and coarse sediments are deflected away from the filter's entry ports, minimizing flow impedance. After first flush, our peak flow bypass system, the “Clean Pass™” Over Flow, effectively detains “floatables”, allowing only clean water through. Once the storm event subsides, the filter catches up and continues filtering all of the incoming stormwater. The useful life of the filter depends on the specific application and varies from six months to two years. The filtration system is usually installed in under an hour.
Maintenance
Filter replacement and system cleaning is quick and easy. Simple vacuuming of accumulated sediment and debris is followed by replacement of the canister. Since this type of installation raises the sump, it virtually eliminates costly vacuum truck clean-outs. In addition, with our new Dry Drain feature, there is no standing water which contributes to bacterial growth and mosquito breeding. The useful life of the filter cartridge ranges from 6 months to over 2 years, depending on pollutant loading. Filter canisters may normally be disposed of in a Class II lined landfill or burned in a waste to energy plant or cement kiln. As always though, we recommend customers check with local regulations first concerning disposal.
Applications and Performance
Total capacity of each system is adjusted to the specific application. EcoSense™ filters use various types of the highest quality specialized sorbents. The absorption materials used in the filtration system are tested and designed to meet or surpass all current NPDES and SPCC environmental standards for hydrocarbon (TPH), and heavy metals removal and can be custom blended for specific applications. EcoSense™ Stormwater Filtration systems are inserted into new or existing structures. Systems are available for areas having concentrations of petroleum based hydrocarbons and debris. They are especially well suited for areas adjacent to receiving waters. Filters may also be loaded with media that remove dissolved heavy metals along with hydrocarbons and oil based pesticides. Each system is adjusted to meet required discharge volumes. During peak flow, stormwater bypasses the filter(s) through the patented “Clean Pass™” overflow system. This system is designed not to clog. EcoSense™ water pollution abatement systems have been tested internationally, as well as by NELAP certified laboratories in the US. EcoSense™ systems consistently demonstrate some of the highest rates of removal for pollutants including TSS, suspended and emulsified oils and grease, nutrients, and various heavy metals (i.e. lead, copper, zinc, chromium, etc) of any system currently designed for this purpose.
